2003 90 HP SN#0T627700 on a 18ft Starcraft Startrek V
Any thoughts on whats wrong are appreciated.
So finally got this thing on the lake and had hell getting it to start, idle and accelerate. Don't really understand why I could not get it to start and idle as I did all of the initial setting up in a 80 gal water tank at the house. (NO MUFFS). I have a factory manual and set everything up according to the manual full timing adjustment, L&S and set the mixture screws as the manual said "kinda" it called for 1/4 turn CC on #1 and 1 to 1 1/2 CC on 2 and 3. I did #1 1 turn 2 and 3 got 1 1/2 turns. Just couldn't bring myself to run that lean. Fired up after a 3 second crank and it was smooth as butter at idle and would not bog when advancing the throttle in forward gear with no prop. I only did this twice to make sure it would throttle up smooth. I did not set the idle in gear I planed on doing that on the lake. It sat for 2 weeks and then it was splash day. Before I left the house I did put it on the muffs to make sure it would start and 1 squeeze of the bulb and a bump of the key it fired up and ran great. Super pleased with it at this point. Trailer'd 5 miles to the ramp put in the water squeezed the bulb again and fought with it for 30 min to try and get it to start and stay running. It would start and run for a bit then die. You would think everything was good and then it would sputter and die. Played with the mixture screws and finally got it to stay running. Adjusted the idle in gear to 700 rpm and then idled out of the no wake. Slowly brought the throttle up and stumble and dies. Restart and try again stumble and die. About the 4th time added a 1/2 turn CC to each mix screw and i got it to get past the stumble but it would die when I cam off the throttle. Fought with this for about and hour tweaking the mix and finally had the idea of resetting to 1 turn on the top and 1 1/2 turns on 2 and 3 but this time I had my brother push in the key to activate the primer circuit for a second and it would jump right up and go. The we were back to the o'l start run sputter and die. It was to hot to keep messing with it so we put it back on the trailer and went home. I think its starving for fuel but the only time that theory made sense to me was when we would activate the primer circuit during start up and throttle up. i tried squeezing the bulb and it would take a few to get it firm but did not affect performance. So that's the story so here is what has been done to the motor:
Comp ck #1 110 #2 105 #3 105
Carbs cleaned 1 yr ago drained them when I realized splash day was a pipe dream in May 2019
Complete new CDI ignition system less fly wheel. (Found the PO had a fire and covered it up)
I got hot spark on all 3 new plugs
the fuel is fresh non-ethanol gas being fed from a 14 gal bow tank with an inline filter between the bulb and the motor.
The tank and all fuel lines including the ones on the motor are new.
I think the fuel pump is original so I ordered that today. I mean I have replaced everything else so why not.
What do yall think?
