Hi My buddy has just bought a brand new SEA HUNT with a EVINRUDE 150 Bombardier. He cannot take it over say 4400 rpm when the warning horn begins to sound. All ideas would be appreciated. It must be something simple and I am sure someone out there has been through this. Thanks Mike

Re: 2003 Evinrude 150 warning horn

Mike - First a short welcome - I say short as you should not finish reading this post before you call your buddy and tell him not to run that motor until he knows what is going on. The horn is telling him that the motor is either overheating or is not getting the correct amount of oil - either of which can cook an engine in short order. His owners manual should tell him which problem he has by the sound of the horn.

In either case he should take it back to the dealer to get the problem fixed under the wty.

If it were an overheat, the HOT lite would illuminate and the motor would slow down to 1200 rpm to minimize any internal damage.

You did not mention any warning lites, but they are REQUIRED for that motor.

If the CHECK ENGINE lite comes on when the horn sounds, then it could be something as simple as water in the engine's fuel filter or an internal electrical problem. A loose battery cable or too small a battery can do the same thing. A dealer can hook up his laptop and it will tell him what error code was saved.
