I am wanting to buy a prop for the motor but need this to beable to determine if the prop i am looking at will work. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thx jds3

So far it is an evinrude, what year, what serial/model number, or anything other then 16 splines? Many sites have props with a chart but need specifics.

Your hub size is the diameter of your gear case.

c/6

Hooty

There are small hub and large hub props for your motor. There are ouver-the-hub props. Each will fit and work fine. Each is designed to do a specific thing.

What is it you are trying to accomplish?

Re: 2003 evinrude 200hp hub size?

At the present time I get ALOT of chine walking at full trim at 3/4 throttle. I can take it to full throttle and 3/4 trim which is bout 60mph and its fine but if i try to get full potential out of it it starts chine walking so bad it feels like the boat is going to toss itself over. I had a friend tell me to go wit a 4 blade 25 pitch prop and that should help it some. I'm not a speed freak by all means but if my boat is suppose run at full trim and full throttle, I want it to get there.

Without knowing more about your set up its hard to say what would help.

When it starts to walk, are you trying to drive thru it or are you just holding the steering wheel straight?

Usual ?'s;
Jackplate?
Nosecone / low water pick up?
Torque tamer?
Dual steering or hydraulic?
Make / model / type hull?
Make / style of prop you have now?

Good luck!

Jackplate--yes..10"
Nosecone / low water pick up--No
Torque tamer--No
Dual steering or hydraulic--hydraulic
Make / model / type hull--2003 Triton TR19 PD--hull type not sure.
Make / style of prop you have now--3 blade Tempest 25 pitch.

I have tried to drive thru it but havnt got the balls to stay with it. It gets that bad. I may not be trying to drive into it enough or to much...not sure.

Re: 2003 evinrude 200hp hub size?

It may be pretty hard to drive thru with hydraulic steering. If the jackplate is hydraulic have you tried it a litle higher?

Although the Tempest is a decent prop its not my first choice. Triton must have some success with it as that seems to be on most of their boats. A call to the factory may get some good advise on plate height.

Personaly I think a large diameter 4 blade might help also. I believe thats a pad bottom hull. A prop with a lot of lift will help balance it on the pad. A torque tamer like the one Bobs Machine sells will help a lot also.

Try some different props to get the feel of whats going on - even if they arent exactly the right pitch.

Again, my personal choice of steering for boats going over 50 is not hydraulic.

Try some props and let us know how you make out.

Good luck!

Re: 2003 evinrude 200hp hub size?

My jackplate is manual. I have heard that going a little higher may help also. Thing is, I am blowing out as my boat breaks over on to plane at bout 4500rpm but after i get it on top of the water its fine.

Will going up on the plate make it blow out more? and If it does do you think it will stable out as it does now?

You say a large diameter 4 blade prop might help too. I am looking to buy one but can't get concrete info on what diameter my motor will take. I have found one up for auction with 25 pitch but all it says is that it fits a 13.75 diameter hub.

Any idea's on how to find out? Evinrude just says any 16 spline standard prop will fit...they wont tell me the hub size.

Re: 2003 evinrude 200hp hub size?

13 3/4" is the overall diameter, not the hub size. I would look for something in the 14 1/4" diameter range.

Dont worry about blowout getting on plane right now. We are after handling changes. Go up 1/2" and see what happens as far as handling. If you have to "chase" the hull with the wheel (make extreme corrections) be very careful.

Let us know!

ok....i went 1/2 inch up on the jackplate and still getting the chine walking. It also acted like it was trying to blow out when you gave it all the trim, but cant really tell for sure.

Do you think i should go up more on the plate?

Not with that prop. It seems to be at, or past, the best X dimention for it. Look into a large diameter 4 blade, but stick with a decent make like Turbo. A Turbo Ultima 4 (O142525R4) should work well. You may be able to go a tad higher on the plate at that point. Watch the water pressure!!

Work with the dealer who sold you the boat or, if he isnt willing to, hook up with a performance center. They should help you test (try several props) to make sure you get the best one.

Good luck!

Re: 2003 evinrude 200hp hub size?

ok...got a turbo 2+2..only 13.75x25 tho. Think this is a good prop?

Also...Should i take the jackplate back down when i try this prop or leave it where it is for now? thx

On a side note..Dhadley...i see your from Port Charlotte...i have an Aunt and Uncle that live in Punta Gorda...last name Lloyd...they were in a yacht club around that area a bit ago...name ring a bell...my dad was asking.

Yes thats a decent prop. Lets test that and see what happens. Leave the plate where it is for now. remember - make one change at a time. Watch your water pressure.

Sorry, the name doesnt ring a bell. Small world though, huh?
