The brass end came off the motor shift shaft. When I removed the lower unit it was attached to the lower unit shift shaft and not the upper shift shaft. It is in tact and slides easily over the splines. The motor shift shaft is stainless steel and the end piece is a female spline made of brass.
How hard is it to replace the complete upper shift shaft? Would I be better finding a way to re-attach the brass end?
