2003 Johnson controls on a 1995 evinrude

Hello i am new here but i have a question about the controls, i have a 2003 40hp johnson and it has the new style controls, i was given a 1995 90hp evinrude with the big red plug i would like to put this motor on my pontoon boat i no i cant use the current contols on it but i heard of a wiring harness adapter to be able to use my current control box, is this true and would you recommend it, also would the trim switch still work the same. sorry for the long question all help would be appreciated

Part [Edit] # 0176346 connects the 95 back with 4 wire OMS/VRO red plug to the 96 and newer control, etc. Dealers carry it for around $150.US list. There are harnesses for just the engine functions, or just the tilt and trim etc, so see your dealer to match everything that you have.

I'm new to this site and find it extremely helpful....I've been looking for some answers as well for my particular situation.As for yours,try looking on EBAY for the harness that was suggested to you,I think you'll find it there,perhaps not listed but by asking some of the bigger marine stores on ebay,they would have it in their ebay stores.
