2003 Mercury 115 , warning alarm horn

New Mercury 115 ELPTO SW series. Mercury commander side mount controls. When key switch is turned on the warning horn test is not audible like was with my 1996 Mariner 90ELPTO The same controls used with both engines. Controls were new in 2001. Is this a change for 2003 two strokes? Thanks in advance.

bfryer, you may want to read the posts on this forum with my problems under "no alarm at start" and "Quicksilver controls" posted by lgreen8303. I found a bad ground connection. You should have an alarm module and horn, I believe the module should be located near the oil injection system to monitor the level of oil. The horn for my module was located in the Quicksilver Commander Control module. To test is fairly easy, turn the key to on and ground the temperature sending unit on the motor, a constant alarm should output if it similar to mine. Hope this helps, lgreen8303

after testing the heat sensor to ground I do get a constant horn audible alarm. Still do not get the horn test beep when the key switch is turned on like I did with my older Mariner 90. I did not change the controls when I installed the new merc 115. I was wondering if Mercury changed something in the new 2003 engines.

Perhaps I should create a new thread, but I have to ask: I have a 90 hp 2002 SW Merc (2 St.), and I have never had any alarm/warning tones at start up. I know my oil alarm works, because it went off once in some waves and the oil was low. Should I be getting start-up warning tones? Do all o/b's have start-up alarms?

What are you doing here? Why are'nt you asking this ? to the dealer that rigged this engine or calling Merc consumer if that dealer can't give you an answer.Too all listening in,there is alot of product out there, that gets changed on an anual basis and sometimes the techs and dealers have no idea what form those changes are in because the manufactures don't tell us what their doing.Thats frustrating for me as well as the consumer.I will say that that horn is now controled more by the ECM than the engines you have previously owned.What doe's the owners manual say about it?

2003 Merc owners manual says nothing about start up test beep at commander control set. Any Mercury dealers out there looking at this post?<br />I get no warning horn test beep with the turn of the key. Commander 2000 remote control, motor is a 2003 115ELPTO Saltwater series Merc. I rigged this motor myself, replacing a 1996 Mariner 90ELPTO. Had the test beep with the Mariner installed. Help, thanks in advance

Sorry guys, no more self test on the 3 and 4 culinder motors....the little black box that performed the self test has been removed, low oil and overheat sound a continuous tone now...
