Hi, I have a 2003 25hp Mercury that the prop shaft doesn't hardly turn when shifted. This is what I've done so far:
1, I've looked at the shift linkage, and everything functions as it should.
2. I took the bearing carrier off expecting to see something, and it all looked really good. The clutch dog didn't look at all worn, and no metal to be found.
3. To rule out a spun hub on the propeller, I took it off completely and run it on muffs, and the shaft hardly moves.
The motor does shift on the handle. When running there is no sound from the clutch dog when shifted, which I find strange. When in neutral there is free movement from the prop shaft as there should be. Foward and reverse also go into gear(can't move the shaft by hand when shifted).
I'm in need of some ideas. I'm at a loss. I appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!
