I just bought a used 2003 Mercury 75hp 2 stroke and have a few questions, and it seems like there is a lot of knowledge here! On my 1996 Mercury, I would push in on the key to activate the enricher when starting and you could here it click when you push the key in. On this 2003 I don’t hear any click when I push in on the key.

From the research I have done it seems like there must be a solenoid of sorts that clicks and that’s what I was hearing on my old outboard. Is there a way to check to see if the enricher is silently working before I spend the money on parts?

Thanks in advance!

It may not be a loud click.----When motor is running what happens when you push in the key?---Key is to be pushed in and held in while cranking it over to start.

I haven’t tried to push the key in while it’s running, I typically just hold it in while turning it over. If I push it in while it’s running should the motor bog down or what?

If it is working properly the motor will run richer and slow down a bit.

I'd think if it starts easily when cold then the enrichener valve is working. Otherwise you would have a difficult time getting it started.

You should be able to find the enrichener solenoid fairly easily. It will be connected by a short length of small gauge fuel hose to the carburetors. Usually there is a manual button on the solenoid that can be activated by hand. You might see a small air bubble move down the line toward the carbs to show the gas is flowing into the carb bowls.
