I just purchased a new carburetor for my 2003 5hp and it came with the pilot screw insert about 2 turns The old carb had a metal cover over the pilot screw. Does any one know the initial sett-up for the pilot screw? is it screwed all the way in and backed out 1and1/2 turn like a Evinrude carb? Any information would be very much appreciated. The old carb is gone.

Install carb, start engine and when sufficiently warmed up can turn pilot screw CCW a bit if engine doesn't run smooth. After that will probably need to adjust idle screw as could be adjusted to rev high. Can adjust both screws while engine sits at back transom on water.

It's not a new carb if the pilot screw is exposed. Start at about 1-1/2 to 2 turns out, and adjust from there. It will likely never be right at this point, as Factory setting is done by instrument, and you will need a very good ear and an excellent shop tack to adjust it back again after it has been disturbed.

Hi it was a Ebay carb from Taiwan. It was supposed to be new and the seller said it was adjusted at the factory. I thought it strange that the cover cap missing, but then again Taiwan isn't under EPA standards. The motor runs good and I won't mess with the setting. Thanks for the info.

If OB runs even and smooth at idle while in neutral, idle rpm is adjusted right, OB doesn't shut off when geared forward, leave it there..

If it came from Taiwan it's not a factory carburetor as the real ones are made in Japan.

OK manual says not adjustable (fixed)(not) I've been to a/c engine 101 motorcycle engine 101 a little outboard is not too intimidating. I do this for a hobby. the dealer only does it for $$$$. I was looking for a quick simple answer not a cyrptology puzzle

It's not adjustable if using an OEM Carb, if all screws are exposed don't see why you can't adjust them accordingly for OB to run smooth and even..
