just bought the engine on a boat...cranked with garden hose...saw a pencil size stream out of the back of the engine and a smaller steam of water out of the side...looked normal to me, but saw a good sized stream of water running out of the bottom of the upper unit and from within the upper/lower seam...it just runs down the lower unit and drops off the bottom...does this sound normal to you? I don't know this outboard...any help will be greatly appreciated

When the motor is drawing water normally (not with the added pressure of a garden hose), the water exits primarily through the exhaust, as well as a stream through the pee tube. When pushing water in with a hose, you may fill the exhaust housing, which can cause the extra water to dribble from other relief areas of the leg. BUT, if you are seeing water leak from between the powerhead and the exhaust housing (inside the lower cowl), there is a problem. Can you post a photo of the water streams?
