2003 yamaha 115 4 stroke, smokes after startup

I have a 2003 yamaha 115 horse 4 stroke, it has around 200 hours on it. It runs great. The only thing is that I can run it all day, then shut it off and come back the next morning. When I start it in the morning it will smoke real bad. Is this normal. thanks

are you tilting it all the way up when you storeit sometimes when you do that a little oil will get behind the rings and cause smoke at start

Nope, it was still in the water with the engine down.

what does the smoke smell like? Is it white unburnt fuel smoke or blueish oil haze? If its gas you could have a bad injectors that leaks down over night dumping fuel into one of the cylinders.

Yes it is normal and can it be eliminated by tilting the engine up past level. With the engine down you will notice that the spark plugs are pointing out and down. This mean the cylinders are also pointing downward.

When the engine is in this position some of the oil goes in the cylinder behind the piston. As the engine cools some oil seeps past the rings.

The reason this doesn't happen on car engines is that the spark plugs point upward and the back of the cylinder and pistond are down towards the ground so no oil gets into the cylinders.

If Rodbolt was available he would be able to explain this.

But if you want to eliminate the problem just tilt the engine until the spark plugs point up a little. Then the oil will run out of the cylinder and back down into the engine.
