Looking for advice on troubleshooting my 2004 efi 115hp 4 stroke.
had it out to the lake last week and at times when I would push the throttle forward to accelerate it was as though the motor had no power and when this happened the motor ran rough as in it vibrated more than normal. This improved throughout the day. At first I thought it could possibly be bad gas so I went out again yesterday with new gas and encountered the problem right away and it never resolved. Also when I push the throttle forward with it out of gear it seems to run fine.
my thought at this point would be starting by changing out the fuel filter and fuel pump but past that looking for suggestions on where to look next…. Possibly running some fuel system cleaner through it. Despite being mechanically inclined I have never worked on or troubleshot a 4 stroke outboard engine before.
also I plan on taking the boat to the dealership and having the diagnostics test ran on it to possibly steer me in the right direction.
