I have never owned a Honda before, I am looking at a few new to me motors, one is a Yamaha 4 stroke, the other is the Honda.
I am leaning word the Honda as the guy with the Yamaha seems to be a bit dicey?

What to lookn at in these motors? Anything special to look for?? How is there over all performance??

I am not new to boating (20 years) But have never owned a $ stroke.

Thanks in advance!!

Your biggest concern at first should be what kind of tech support do you have in that general area.If you are dealing with rookie techs in either arena they will not deliver you an adequate health check on either engine.

Thanks, I have a Yamaha Dealer near by, not sure on the Honda? Will look into it for sure!!

Just wondering how these motors run and are there any concerns or issues to look for or be warned about.More on the Honda then the Yam,aha as I am considering that at the momrnt

It had about 300 they said? But I have bought the 2004 Yamaha F225 4 Stroke Looks like a great motor! Could not hear it run but compression and stuff all ck out ad the dealer is standing behind the motor till May 2010 so I ave a chance to get it mounted and can use it a little.

Thanks Guys!

hello i own a 225 honda from 2004 on my triton sf 21. the motor is great, But you have to make sure whatever you put it on the idle exhaust ports are at least 6" above the water line,or it will injest water and bend rods and blow the power head.mine did this at less than 50 hrs 3yrs after i bought it.they warranteed it, But the cause still exists for me,I'am still talking to triton about what to do and whos fault this problem is.honda sent out a bullitin to all honda dealers to make sure this engine is installed correctly on the boat

lgbass33, why don't you just raise the motor a couple of notches to give it more clearance.
I am also running a 225 Honda, but I have mine pretty high on the transom because of such a deep/sharp "V" and have not had any problems with cavitation.

i have a jack plate on it and the rpm is at 6000 so i cant come up any more ,plus the cavitation will be worse.

Re: 2004 225 Hp

Maybe time to leave well enough alone, but why run it at such high RPM? I run mine at about 36-3800 RPM and get about 5 gallons per running @ 25-28 MPH depending on the water. Once you get above that, it takes a lot more gas.
