Does anyone know if you can reset the check engine light and codes without a code reader on this car?

Thanks
Mike

Remove the battery cables for at least 30-45 minutes..... should clear the codes in memory.

I don't think unhooking the battery will reset it on an obd2 vehicle. you can get the codes read / reset at autozone. how many miles on it it might be under warranty. if the light is on it is usually something affecting the emmissions to be out of range.

Ah yes Chrysler ,some you get the codes by key, off on off on off on {3times} or 4 or 5 times, some you have to go, On acc on acc on acc ,3 ,4 0r 5times Some will clear by removal of battery cables others need the scanner to do it One other way on some {jeep} you turn it on put in foward ,drive 3 feet ,put in reverse back up 3 feet DO that 3 0r 4 or 5 times and it clears computer Anyways try if these don't work you will have to use a scanner

Re: 2004 Chrysler Pasifica

The oil was changed by the dealer and appears that they only filled it with enough oil to get it to a little above the add. I am assuming they filled to full and forgot to recheck after starting or their oil changes are for up to 5 qts of oil, this car takes a little over 6 qts.

The light came on after pulling into a steep drive to turn around. Light came on as I was backing out. I assume it went to low oil pressure and tripped the light due to low oil at the pickup.

I need to take it to AutoZone, but I normally don't buy anything there and I hate to use my for the freebies. I had a Pontiac that you could use a paper clip in the connector to reset and was hoping I could do it myself. If the light stays off no harm no foul. If it comes back on I have to do battle with the dealer.

Almost forgot, Thanks for the replies, I will let you what happened when I get time to take care of it.

OBD II code readers can be had for pretty cheap, under $50 for sure. They're nice to have around I've used mine lots of times for my own vehicles as well as helping family and friends out.

I have thought about that, but will one work on all makes or do you have to get one that only works on Chrysler. The shop forman has an expensive snap on that he has to have different ends and software to make work.

I will drive anything. He is a chevy man so his stuff never fits my autos.

They come with the adapters for different makes.
Even a generic one for the foreign cars.

86-95 OBD1
96-05 OBD2
05-?? CAN

OBD1 systems can be checked with (GM) paper clip, (Chysler) Key on and off 3X, For a scanner and so forth and so forth.

OBD2 systems require a scanner.

Can systems require a scanner, but will also scan all other systems, so it could be a good investment.:)

Do the key flip you will get your codes,so you can make sure it was the result of the oil change ,flip the key then look at your odemeter for the code, post the code and we can let you know takes 2 minutes of your time, the computer will reset itself after about 3 to 10 cycles if the problem was fixed

I went to Autozone and purchased a reader. The code was P0401 EGR insufficient air flow. Have to wait and see if it comes back on, but appears to have nothing to do with the oil change.

I hopes it's under warranty cause EGR valve is expensive. Normally, EGR doesn't get clogged up until ya got lotsa milage on them.
