I notice I was leaking fuel last week when I was trying to start my boat. I thought it was just the fuel line/connection point at the carb, but I guess not. Because when I squeezed the gas line bulb, it looked like fuel was leaking from there. So I remove the line and clip, and put it back on and it was fine....
Until this week, when I went on a camping trip. Drove 200+ miles and get the boat out in the water. Immediately notice smell of fuel and see some gas on top of the water. Couldnt get the motor started at all. This time, I see the gas gushing out of the top of the carb when I squeezed the bulb.
There's a metal plate on top. With a rubber gasket. Under that is this channel or passage of some sort with a small hole. The fuel is coming out of there. I pulled the gas line from the carb and the carb plug is just dripping lots of gas.
I plug the line back in and try to prime and gas just keeps gushing out. I also notice a little dripping out of the intake now.
I found a Mercury Outboard shop relatively closeby if they have time to take a look at it. They said they were busy, about a week out, but stated sounds like I need a "carb kit". No time since we're at a camping location.
Since we were in town, stopped off at the GFs parents to visit. We told him of the problem and he said bring the boat. Well I go to show him the problem and nothing. The motor works as always. I pump the bulb and felt the tightness right away.
Motor started right up. He said the float inside the carb may be sticking. Took the boat back to the waters and no issue the remaining trip.
So what's the deal here?
