ok so thats a solenoid - i got you... so if you can confirm that line to the carb is the clear line, we are good - because that is the only fuel line i see that goes to the carb (it DOES come from the fuel pump)...

The clear line is a tell tail. It should not have fuel in it. If it does you have a bad fuel pump.

lol - i ask again - is this the line to put the t connector in and check the pressure in?

Clear line No

Stainless steel line yes

Remove it from the carb and install a Tee fitting and another connector to the carb

Being a 2004 I believe you should have the Mercarb..Pretty sure TKS didn't come out until late 05 or early 06 but they do offer TKS kit's for earlier engines.:D I may have missed it but having your engine serial number would help us too.:)

One way to test the fuel PSI, you should be seeing a metal line running from the pump to carb such as item number 8, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...30905/4893/100
It looks similar to a metal brake line kind of like what's shown below.

You also need something similar to mercruiser's fuel pressure tester tee fitting adapter that goes between the metal line and carb...Should look like or be this http://www.hardin-marine.com/p-62962...91-806901.aspx

Or there is this way to test fuel system, HOW TO: Testing your boats fuel system.

I wonder about the "paint" you said you saw in the fuel lump bowl. Ive had two boats over the last few years. One was a carbed mercruiser, other was an multi port fuel injected indmar. Both were pre 2002 models and had ethanol fuel issues. Rubber sheets came from the rubber fuel hose and would clog, black particles and rust particals would clog everything. Ive had to rebuild the carb, all fuel injectors, fuel rails, replace hoses and filters on both boats to get them back right. My carbed boat had to also have accelorator pump and linkage replaced and adjusted to provide a good throttle response. Just some ideas that might help you on your way.

I definitely wonder about that too. If any of that had made it past the broke down filter I removed it's definitely going to be an issue. will be doing the fuel line pressure check (up to the carb) as soon as I get a chance. Then I'll know if any made it to the carb or not.
