Does anyone know what might cause fuel to leak from the vapor separator ? It is like the float is not stopping the fuel and it continues to rise and release thru the vapor tube. I've tried two different assy's and it appears the floats are working. I'm baffeled. Any sugesstions?

I'm not sure what you mean by two different assy's.but if fuel comes out of the over flow tube then the float. or needle n seat are not sealing.or is the fuel coming out of the fuel pressure regulator .that would be the gold colored thing bolted to the top of the vst tank.

Re: 2004 Optimax Fuel Leak

The VS tank on my boat is approx. 8" x 6" x 3" with the fuel filter intergrated in it. If your looking at the motor from the port side it is the aluminum casting with a top and bottom. The fuel comes in from the left side from the fuel pump into the filter bowl and then goes thru to the bowl side [this side has the float, booster pump, and high pressure fuel pump. as the gas fills the tank the float is supposed to stop the flow of gas and leave an inch or two at the top for the vapors to escape. On top of the tank there are two outlets, one sends fuel to the engine and the other is for the vapors to escape. This is the one that the fuel is coming from. It appears that the pressure is too high and is over riding the float and valve. I has checked the valve and it appears to be fine. I also purchased a second tank assembly [that's what I mean by two assy's] and am getting the same results. I spoke with someone who said there should be a pressure relief valve on the top of the tank, but there is not. There is a valve at the bottom right corner, but it appears to be a valve like you would find in a bicycle tire [with a protective cap on it].

I have the same problem - started with running out of fuel at high speeds - canged the fuel pump and now runs good but pumps fuel out the top of the vapor port like crazy. Did you find a solution to yours?
