Re: 2004 Optimax Fuel Leak
The VS tank on my boat is approx. 8" x 6" x 3" with the fuel filter intergrated in it. If your looking at the motor from the port side it is the aluminum casting with a top and bottom. The fuel comes in from the left side from the fuel pump into the filter bowl and then goes thru to the bowl side [this side has the float, booster pump, and high pressure fuel pump. as the gas fills the tank the float is supposed to stop the flow of gas and leave an inch or two at the top for the vapors to escape. On top of the tank there are two outlets, one sends fuel to the engine and the other is for the vapors to escape. This is the one that the fuel is coming from. It appears that the pressure is too high and is over riding the float and valve. I has checked the valve and it appears to be fine. I also purchased a second tank assembly [that's what I mean by two assy's] and am getting the same results. I spoke with someone who said there should be a pressure relief valve on the top of the tank, but there is not. There is a valve at the bottom right corner, but it appears to be a valve like you would find in a bicycle tire [with a protective cap on it].
