Just got home from the Philly boat show! We didn't buy a shiny new boat, but we put a deposit down (contingent on inspection) on a 2004 Stingray 190CS. It's normally $12450, but it was on sale just for the show at $9995. Wondering what the iBoats community thinks of this deal? The salesman at the show seemed to think we could get it down to $9000, but we'd probably shoot for $8500. Is this a good deal? What's the general consensus on that era Stingray?

We haven't physically looked at the boat yet, but the pics look super clean.

Stingray is an entry level boat similar in build quality and components as Bayliner or Tahoe. That seems awfully high for a 6 year old boat with a 4 banger motor. I would shoot for 7K.

NADA book value is $6000. Nuff said.

The boat dealers are going broke in this economy. They are desperate to get a high price whenever they can. But, the fact remains its IS a buyer's market. Offer $6500 cash and I bett they will take it. If not, keep looking.

Re: 2004 Stingray 190CS?

I bought, and then sold, a 04 Stingray 190 last year....bought it for 5,500, and sold it for 6,300 a few weeks later. Btw, boat looked like brand new, was never kept in the water, was always kept indoors, and had 35 (yep, 35) hours on the 4 banger.
I bought it just to sell, and honestly thought I could make alot more on it. Economy is very tough right now for boats, snowmobiles, etc.

That says low retail is $9870 ($8230 without any options). Wondering where you got $6000 from? I definitely don't want to over-pay for a boat, but I don't understand where that figure came from. Am I looking at NADA wrong?

No, you didn't do it wrong. I just tried it again and got what you got. But look again at the specs. It shows the price for a diesel engine. Here is what I got the first time...for a 120 gas 4-banger:

Now I'm confused too. I just checked my last post to be sure it was correct and found that the link I cut and pasted was not the same as what I read on my screen when I copied it.

There must be a glitch with NADA. Anyway, your link and mine both show the wrong engine.

When I do the search it comes up 220 HP, so I do the edit in the drop down menu to show a 120 HP 4 cylinder and it comes up as follows:

high average - $8550
deduct 2560 for smaller motor

Ends up $5990 average high retail.

I know I wouldn't be happy with a 130hp motor. Besides that, yea price seems off to me. There is no harm in haggling on the price.

Ya, a 4.3L would definitely be my preference, but did you notice what I'm coming from in my sig? :D My Century 190 has a 30 yr old OMC 140.

Lots of people bash the 3.0 Liter Mercruiser. I have a 190 Stingray with a four banger. Mine's a 1984. I'm the original owner and the oldest member of the Stingray Boat Owners Club (oldest boat that is....LOL)

I wouldn't trade that motor for anything. The fuel economy is outstanding. I have a custom pitched prop and the ignition was converted to electronic (replaced the points & condenser) The engine is bulletproof and runs awesome. I won't tell you how fast she goes becasue I would be accused of lying. The fact is that Stnigray hulls run well on less horsepower.

Also to add to the above scenario that it is a small cuddy that would likely have a smaller pool of buyers meaning lower sales price. Maybe not a fair comparison between PA and MN but here those small cuddy's sit a while. The 19footer is open bow territory.

Wow, we're all ready to walk away from I but this and the previous post have me thinking again. My Century has the equivelant of the 3.0L and it does ok. I wouldn't want to try skiing behind it, but we'd certainly like to do some tubing. I get about 35 at best with it. Seems fast enough.

I'd love a 4.3L, but maybe it isn't that big a deal yet. I do like the fuel economy of the smaller engine.

We were talking about offering $7500 cash (including tax, etc.) and seeing what they'd say. Does tha seem reasonable?

If it were me I'd print out the NADA page and clip a $100 bill to it, then offer him 500 more than book value($6500). You can always come up to 7500 but never go down.

I bought a showroom condition Chevy Caprice a number of years ago and got him to come down over $5000 off the sticker price just because my credit union wouldn't loan more than the amount I offered.

Not a bad idea. They do already have a $500 deposit on it from our credit card so we could lock in the "Show Pricing." We're prepared to write them a check for the full amount which, to me, is the same as green cash. I hate haggling, but my wife loves it :)

The 4.3's economy isn't too much less but the power increase is substantial. Again, I don't know your market but just this week a pretty good trickle of nice bowriders have started making their way on CL now that the temps are starting to warm up. I will say that the Stingray is probably the only hull I would run a 3.0 on if I was buying and an 04 is pretty new.
