1) If you are getting 6 "amps" at the fuel tank sending unit you are measuring wrong. 6 amps will fry the sender.
2) There are now about 70 or so posts on how to solve fuel gauge issues. Use the "Search" feature. Digarms are included.
3) To check the sender you disconnect the pink wire. You then measure resistance from the threaded post to the shell of the sender. Full tank = 33 ohms, 1/2 tank = 109 ohms and empty = 240 ohms. The metal shell of the sender must be grounded.
