2004 Yamaha 90 TLRC won't start

Made it about 10 miles from home and stopped to fish - after being off for about 45 minutes, the motor wouldn't start - starter wasn't engaging (seemed like no electricity was getting to the engine). The gauges all worked with the key turning on, the kill switch was in the run position.

I checked any electrical connection I could locate and made sure they were tight - after about 15 minutes it started right back up.

Any ideas on what might have caused this or if there is something I should check out on the engine?

Thank you!

If the start relay was clicking , I would check battery cable connections.
If it was not clicking then look at your neutral safety switch

Re: 2004 Yamaha 90 TLRC won't start

Thank you for the response - the battery is brand new and the connections cleaned - the start relay was not clicking. I did try starting out of neutral yesterday and that simulated what I experienced on the water.

I am assuming that is on the engine (I see a Neutral Switch assembly in the parts catalog) rather than in the control. Is this something that can be adjusted or more likely replaced?

So far it has just been that one time - I had the hose hooked up yesterday and it didn't do it, but I assume the next time I am out it will happen again.

Again, thank you for you help!
