I just bought a used 2004 Yamaha F8 (all manual). It was kind of a "fire sale", guy was selling it for his buddy but couldn't get the thing to idle. Overall, there's no sign the motor was damaged or abused with the exception of it being possibly stored incorrectly. There seems to be a lot of engine oil around the carb. I took it off and checked what I believe is the "main" jet (the one coming straight out of the bowl) which seemed plenty clean (bowl was spotless). As I don't have a repair manual, I'm not sure where the idle jet is.
I have started the motor, which required being choked and a lot of throttle. The first time it ran a lot of oil out the exhaust and then quit doing that. It will run at an extremely high idle just fine but wont' come close to idling. It just reaches a certain point, I'd say around 2000 RPM, and below that it just won't run. Compression is fine, and it has fresh gas.
I'm guessing that it just can't pull and fuel out of the idle jet. Could oil cause that and not be easily cleaned out by running clean gas through it? Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
