So I am about to order a carb kit and tear into the carb but I was just looking for some advice before digging into it. So I took my boat to the ramp... I had ran it two weeks before this and things seemed to be fine. I gave a few pumps on the primer bulb and backed her in the water. It starded ok, idled for about four sec and died which isn't too unnormal. But then I went to squeeze the bulb again and it caused a squeaking noise (almost like a turkey diagphragm call) from somewhere around the carb. I thought I located the noise coming from the diaphragm as that would make sense if it had a hole in it. I went home and took the old diaphragm off thinking it had a hole, it looked ok but I put a new one on, since I had one already, and the two gaskets there at the diaphragm thinking this would be a quick fix. At this point the bulb still won't get firm, but the squeaking noise is gone, but instead I hear a whoosh of air when I squeeze the primer bulb and it sounds like it's coming from the carb throat potentially.
Before I tore into it I was wanting some reassurance that a carb kit would potentially fix my issue. On another note I did notice a oily grime covering my carb, and to rule out the fuel primer bulb I hooked the tank and hose to another boat motor and it primed it fine. So it's got to be in the carb somewhere... Thanks in advance for any food for thought.

If this is a Mercury built motor get the carb kit that has the primer and fuel pump assembly. Make sure to check the spring and ball under the primer.
