2005 F115 and 704 remote shifting problem

I have recently installed a 2005 Yamaha F115 with a known working 704 remote control box. The remote control and cables worked fine with a 1996 C115 very recently. Cables are routed the same as before with old engine and are not binding. Tilt/Trim has nothing to do with it because it acts the same at any tilt/trim level. The F115 appears to go into either F or R rather quickly and easily and then any extra movement of the throttle lever at the helm is very hard from that point on. It appears to be trying to continue pushing on the gear shift mechanism when it really is not required because it is already engaged. I believe that continued pushing is causing the stiffness on the throttle lever at the helm. Is there a way to adjust the shifting in either the remote control box (hopefully) or the engine to stop the "continued pushing on the gear shift mechanism" so that all works easier. With all cables removed from the engine the throttle and shifting do seems to work flawlessly. Difficult for me to explain. Thanks in advance.

Just do a check again of the shift and throttle cables at the motor to discount they aren't incorrectly slotted, easily done, the adjustments can be made at the cable end (motor) and fine tuning at control box.

Does the motor throttle up after shifting when connected to the box? I know that if I had taken my control set up from my 1994 70 HP and hooked it right up to my new four-stroke that I wouldn't have got very much throttle out of it since the older motor has a pull-to-open throttle and the new one has a push-to-open throttle. I'm not familiar with your old motor though. The F115 has a push-to-open throttle.

You may also have the throttle and shift cables reversed. Disconnect both of them. Put the control box in neutral. Now move the lever to forward (just so it goes out of neutral into forward gear). The first cable to move is the shift cable. Continuing to move the lever should move the throttle cable.
