First let me beg your forgiveness, as I do not have much information at all. But I know some of you guys just know these things, so I wanted to ask.
** The car is a 2005 with a 3.0 OHV V6, overdrive trans, with under 70,000 miles on it **
My wife has a cousin (the kind of person that bad things always happen to, and she can't figure out why) who drives a Ford Taurus. I don't even know the year, but it's not one of the round back window ones, it's the next body style they went to, after that disaster. Supposedly the car won't go faster than 20mph, and it won't shift. I have yet to look at the car, but wondered if this is truly a deadly internal problem, or possible a simple electrical issue.
This girl's sister mentioned something about brown fluid in the trans, and so they think someone (possibly the driver) poured non-transmission fluid in it. I know what burned trans fluid looks and smells like, and I actually do have some prepaid oil analysis containers that I could take a sample.
What should I look for, in particular if I get a chance to inspect/drive this car?
