Quick question, when disconnecting the shift shaft on this motor, do I leave the gear in neutral, or should I be in forward/reverse for this procedure? Manual does not specify, just says to remove the shift rod link pin and push the shift rod link towards the power head.

Thanks!

The actual shift position does not matter for the lower unit itself.------But you may have to use forward for room to push the lever over to the port side.---Do not turn the shift rod in the lower unit.-----Check shift rod height before installing.

Roger that, I understand what you're saying, using forward gear can provide clearance. I will check shift rod height, hopefully won't have to move it at all. Thanks!

Ok I was able to remove the lower unit without issue today. Now going to perform a cooling system flush with marine descaling product and submersible pump setup, and also service water pump/impeller while it's apart. Hopefully it goes back together as easily as it came apart (famous last words) - thanks!
