I am looking at buying a used 2005 Larson 18SEI. I noticed two quarter sized buldges in the hull just above the water line closer to the bow below the windshield on the starboard side. Could these be sessors in the Gelcoat for a fish or depth finder? Are they something elese?

Blisters. But if the rest of he boat doesn't have them, repair is probably OK.

I thought that to however they are perfectly round, both identical and about a foot apart one directly above the other. I thought it would be would be unlikely therse are blisters because they are so conform.

I have seen blisters on other boats before and the shapes are irregular and randomly located.

Anybody know someone with a boat like this with a factoy depth finder?
.
Sorry I don't have a picture - I wanted to check this out before buying the boat.

Two quarter-sized bulges that you think might be sensors?

I checked with the dealer, they said the bumps are infact blisters and they will repair them. They said there was one additional blister that I didn't see. The cost to repair for all three blisters would cost $900 which they will pay for and complete before the sale of the boat.

My question is, is this normal for a boat that has only for seasons of light use? Should I avoid buying this boat ? Is their a issue with Larsons and I should also avoid this brand?

Thaks for your advice in advance.

You should visit:

When a dealer is anxious to flip the bill just to move the boat, it doesn't bode well for YOU. But read about blisters first.

This David Pascoe article is directly relevant:

One of the most frequently asked questions that a marine surveyor gets is, "Should I buy a boat that has blisters?" This is a question that I've wrangled with for many years, and after a great deal of research involving thousands of boats. This essay will answer your questions a bit more directly than some of our more detailed blister essays, which many of you found hard to understand. That's understandable because this is a very complex subject. But be prepared that the answer is populated with a lot of ifs, ands, and buts.

This would not be the first time I've heard of a Larson with fiberglass issues.

If it is a smaller Larson, blisters don't jive with the toubts of the VEC technology. I hear all the time gel cracks in VEC boats but haven't heard of blisters yet. In this market/economy with all the stuff going on credit wise and consumer cofidence wise I wouldn't consider a boat not pristine that new for virtually any price. I would take the opportunity to brand hop up the food chain. Today's used premium brand boat is yesterday's Larson.
