I was out cruising in about 40' of water when an "event" happened, I honestly don't remember a sound, but I was rather shocked that it was happening, so I don't remember for sure. My motor immediately shut down and I went to 0 MPH. I took it out of gear and the motor was still running, but running very rough. I gave it a bit of choke, and it killed the motor.
I pulled the lower out of the water and did a visual inspection. I didn't see anything abnormal, no scrapes or scratches or dents. I lowered it back in the water and took the cover off the engine. I noticed a linkage disconnected in the throttle linkage, I believe that it controlled the intake air.
Once I hooked it back up, I put the cover back on and the motor started right up and ran right. I put the lower unit back in gear and it powered up, but stopped at 6.x MPH if I went wide open it hit 7 MPH. So I shut it off and used my kicker all the way back.
It revs up great and sounds good, but won't go.
I took the drain screw out of the lower when my kicker got us back to the dock about 2 hours later. I just let a little oil come out and there was very small sparkles of metal (I do mean small, no flakes or chunks.)
When I got home, I drained the lower and pulled the foot off. Again there was little sparkles, but no smoking gun.
I pulled the propshaft and bearing carrier out and still didn't see anything that is an ah hah broken.
At the moment I can't upload pictures as my website server is down at the moment, I will update it as soon as I can.
