Stingray builds a very nice boat for the money. I have heard they are fast and light and can really get the most out of a motor. With a 5.0 that boat will move. The sacrifice may be ride quality. Pretty sure I can see in the picture that there isn't much V left by the time you get to the transom of that boat. Price seems average.

Looks like a nice boat with low hours. Can't tell you a price, as that's so subjective.

I just bought a brand new leftover 08 Monterey for 18.5k with a trailer, so the price doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

My thoughts on Stingray; fast but light with a narrow beam and will sacrifice ride quality, great if you like to go fast on a budget.

As for quality, they are average quality but that one is much nicer than their entry level models. Average quality nowdays is very good.

As a northerner, that is an absolute steal being that is not an entry level boat.
Only thing I would want is MPI which on that size of Stingray, I see often but that is still a deal to me.

I have been pleased with mine...quality seems to be average...I like the value the best. They seem to be relatively inexpensive, but not cheap, if that makes any sense. My bottom of the line, entry level bowrider came standard with stainless hardware and power steering.

I love the efficiency of the hull design, I can cruise all day on less than a tank. I can reach 45 mph on the GPS with my 4-banger. The hull is known for porpoising potential, but most Stingray owners (at least the ones on the MyStingray.com forum) add Smart-tabs or something similiar to compensate. I have not had this problem with mine (so I do not have tabs).

I have also heard very positive things about their customer service. I especially like the owners only forum, mentioned above, where company reps actually ask and answer owners' questions. They also offer access to a website that has your specific parts list for your boat, a maintenance log, even the "window sticker" for your boat showing all options, etc.

On the flip side, this is the first boat I have owned and do not have much basis to compare, so take it for what it is...some notes from one pleased owner.

Its a 220 LX, not DLX.

I am real happy with my 3 foot shorter one year older version. From what all I have read, you will find it needs some type of smart tabs or trim tabs if you plan to do a lot of water sports.

You might plan on it needing a carb cleaning some time in the future, as its largely been sitting with the same gas in it for a while (only 33 hours).

I used to live in Greensboro and have bought a lot of parts from that dealer.
They are known to ask high prices.
My bet is you could get them down on that asking price.
If not tell them you will go five miles up the road to Grandpa's Marine and see what deals he will give you..;)

I also noticed it has NY registration.Either that dealer bought it from a repo or has it on consignment....
Maybe another point to get the price down.

I looked at a boat several years ago that a broker had.
I figured i would low-ball them by 2k to start and they took the first offer...;)

Re: 2005 Stingray 220dlx - good boat/deal?

I was actually thinking about starting at $13k if I was to pursue it. I looked up NADA and it said high $12s.

Gary - I also noticed the NY registration. I would definately be asking about that. It very well could be a repo, all though it says in the add that they have all maintenance documentation. My thoughts on a repo are that if you can't afford the boat payment, you probably can't afford the maintenance. Maybe the previous owner moved from NY. Who knows...

How much info will boathistory.com tell you on a boat? Would it tell you if it was a repo?

Not sure if the hull ID check would show a repo.
The Nada of 12 k is a bargaining point. Although Nada is about useless on boats i would still never pay over what they show.
It is a really nice looking boat and 12k would be fair price if everything checked out.
This time of year i would think they would want to move it.

Make them an offer and let them think on it.....I bet they call you back.
