Last weekend while idling through a manatee zone started squealing.. I stopped at that point and could not see anything visible, when it increased as the RPM”s increased. I started heading back to the dock and it quit.. Heading back out it started up again and it comes and goes.. I was actually taking it in for the 20 hour break in service and the service guys said they could not get it to do it. I got it back, 20 min in the water and the squeal is there. Any ideas? Water pump???

have them check the bushing for the driveshaft in the midsection and check the camshaft belt tensioner.

Rodbolt,
Thanks for the information. The dealer I bought it from "could not hear the problem".. They said they did a water test, but interesting enought the boat still did not have the plug in when I picked it up. I am taking it to another mechanic that I have used in the past and trust..

The symptom happens when the boat is underway or at idle (not in gear).. I dont want to risk dropping a timing belt, anything that I can do to validate where it's coming from?

Thanks in advance.

not really, its common to hear some belt noise and the bushing in the mid section has been known to squeek, none are a particular problem. I cant hear it so all I can do is advise to have a trusted professional inspect it.

Kinda new to this forum but like most of what I've seen so far. Anyways had a problem like this last year after several water tests, a couple hours in the test tank and a lot of time just listening to a running engine finally found that elusive squeak. Turns out that it was the top of the driveshaft rubbing where it enters the oil pump assembly. look under the motor pan and you'll be able to see the driveshaft ...have the engine running and listen for the squeak . when you hear it shoot some wd40 on the driveshaft if your squeak goes away....oil pump seals.
