I have a 2005 yamaha 60hp outboard that runs great at idle even up to 3/4 throttle but when you open it up the alarm sounds. The water pump is brand new and is pumping perfectly. If I kill the motor after the alarm sounds, and start it back up, the alarm comes on until you get up to about half throttle and goes back off. Then when I open it back up again the alarm sounds again. The motor runs good the whole time but I am concerned about the alarm at full throttle. Any suggestions on what the problem might be???

thanks

Re: 2005 yamaha 60hp problems running full throttle

You need to post the model # of your motor when you ask questions about it so everyone knows what it is(2 stroke, 4 stroke, oil injected, etc).

Do you have a owners and service manual for your motor? It would give info on the alarm systems and what sets them off.

I thought that the motor would be put into a safe mode when the alarm is sounding and limit the RPMs, but from what you have written it is not doing that, so I am at a loss of what could bring in the alarm but not limit RPM.

I can't find the book for the motor but it is a 2 stroke oil injected motor.
