My problem is that my engine shuts off while i"m attempting to land my boat. I thought that maybe it was because I was throttling up in shallow water, but that don't make since to me because it is possible to start the motor out of the water. I'm at a loss. It's a 2005 yamaha 50hp 2 stroke. During my last service I informed them of the problem and they said they didn't see anything wrong with the motor. I have about 41 hour on the motor and other than this problem it runs fine. Any ideas or commits will be helpful.

need a bit more information.
when you say it shuts off does it quit? cough and quit or slow down and die? how high are you trimming it when attempting to throttle up?
if trimmed to high the fuel bowls get low on fuel as all the remaining gas in the bowl moves to the front keeping the needle valve shut.
has it always done this? do you have a good fuel water seperator installed?

Yes Rod it does quit instantly with no cough or slow down. I trim it up just enought to clear the bottom. It does happens 90% of the time. I do have a fuel seperator and i will check that in the morning. And for more info it will idle while i am trimed up,put as soon as i put it in gear it will quit. Thanks for your input.

could be the floats are misajusted or the mixture screws on the carbs need a bit of tweaking. try turning them ccw 1/8 of a turn a time or two and see if that helps.

Flats, I don't really know what they checked. I'm taking the boat out tomorrow. I plan on checking out the ideas that you guys have passed along. If I don't have any luck, I'm going to take it back to them for more work. I'm still in my two year free service window. I have not looked at the carbs. as of yet. And really I don't want to make any adjustment without a manual close by. Again Thanks
