My neighbor's Merc had water in the fuel over the winter. This created sediment in the vapor seperator. The high pressure fuel pump was locked up, but the boost fuel pump was fine. We replaced the high pressure pump and the fuel and air pressure readings on the fuel rails were about 80 PSI each and the engine idles fine.
Upon launching, the motor will speed up to 1700 RPM and run fine. Any more throttle and she will start to buck and miss and eventually die.
Any ideas to the cause? The mechanic thinks it needs new spark plugs. The plugs are original and are iridium. Boat has 300 hours running tine.
