2006 Evinrude e-tec 115 - need advice

Getting ( I think !! ) a great deal on a boat that I really like with a new e-tec 115 hp on it. -dealership liquidation sale -( supposed to be new 2006 model )
1 How can I tell if its really new ?
2 Should it have a 3 yr warranty if its never been registered as sold before ?
3 From those with experience, are there any quirks with these motors , as a whole ? , hopefully not like the previous Fichts.

Any experienced help would be appreciated.

Forget the Ficht's, the E-Tecs are completely different motors, and have generally been good. If you are buying from an authorized BRP dealer, the motor should have a three year warranty and is very easy to verify the motor is new by interrogating the EMM with Evinrude sw and a laptop (the dealer will need to install the motor and set up the proper oil). I would recommend using only XD100 oil ... it's expensive, but you'll use 1/2 the oil otherwise and won't have to worry about carbon at all.

I have two '07 175's and they've been the very best motors I've ever owned (and I've owned a bunch over the years).

No quirks, but spooky! They start after a winter of sitting like they've been running for days and immediately idle at 475 RPM with no smoke, no choke, no nothing ... just very smooth running. These motors are technically very different from the OMC Ficht's, but they are DI motors, about the only feature they share with the Ficht's and are totally a BRP developed product.

Once the motor is set up, the EMM will dump it's operating and engine running hours to the laptop and those values will be close to zero (but won't be zero BC of factory testing). Just have the dealer print out the summary report. If this is not an authorized dealer, it's not the same BC whoever you are buying from will have to have a dealer do the install (it's coupled to the warranty).
