Some low Life just went around our lake and cut out every battery they could from several boats. Im having trouble figuring out the wiring on mine. There is the obvious large positive and Negative and the red fused hot wire but I can figure out the other three Black wires. Two of them seem to be going to ground but the other is showing around 7volts ?? Any Help is appreciated. Oh and they run from the battery to the front console into a nest of around 200 wires. Sorry for the crappy Vandalism.jpg pic.

What follows is educated guessing at best. ... If the thieves simply cut the wires going to the battery so they could steal it, it would seem that all you need to do is reconnect red to positive and black to ground on the battery. ... And if the battery is missing, where is that 7 volts coming from?

Thanks Tommy but I don't work on educated guesses when it comes to electrical weather its A/C or D/C. I have have the everything figured out but those three wires, that is were I'm getting my seven volts from. I was hoping someone with a similar year and make boat would take a look at theirs and chime in. If not I'll have to do it the hard way and untangle the 20 feet of extra wires under the cockpit and shoot a tone down the ones in question but its not really the way I want to spend my day.

Look closely at the 2 wires, one should have a molded stripe on it,the other is just smooth. Usually the neg is smooth the positive has the raised stripe.
Let us know if it has them.
The 7 volts might just be a back feed from an instrument or something,if you have a battery hooked to it. It lets some voltage bleed Back, looking for a ground of sorts.

Checked the wires and they were all smooth but I did have a gentleman on Face Book send me a picture of his set up and all three went to ground so as you said grub1grub2 that seven volts must have been back feed. Thanks for everyone's help. I'm Back in action and I did add a wiring diagram to my files for future issues because god knows my memory is shot! Also relocated the battery to a lockable storage area. Thanks again.

Yea its Crazy the lengths people go through to steal sh!t. Ten years ago someone went around the lake and took all the smaller outboards.Taking all those batteries was no easy job. Most of them weighed 40 .lbs +++ and had to be carried quite a distance not to mention it was pouring rain that whole night. Seems like it would just be easier to work for a living. I think its time to bite the bullet and spend the two grand on a self contained solar powered security system. Thanks again.
