2006 mercury 9.9 idle speed adjustment procedure

Just bought a new to me 2006 mercury 9.9. Just put a carb kit in it and i want to know the procedure for setting up the idle adjustment knob, if i turn it all the way clockwise it just barely idles, and if i turn it counterclockwise (to slow) it just goes so slow it dies..... looks like a million adjustments everywhere on this motor with the automatic shifter on the handle, thanks.

How did it run before you did anything with the carb? Did you drill out the plug for the idle mixture, or are you just referring to the idle speed screw?

Needs to be warmed up to normal operating temperature and adjusted in gear at tick over speed. Enough to keep it from stalling when shifting gear and not too much that it wants to drop the teeth off the gearbox when it does.
