Before you start messing with the fuel, pull a spark plug wire and make sure you are getting spark.

Thanks. A couple of people have mentioned that, but I don't know how to check for spark. Can you please elaborate?

Harbor rat - I do take offense. I joined the forum to learn about my mercury motor so that I would not have to pay someone. Through the kindness of others I have already learned a lot.

I asked you in the other thread if you had the service manual and without answering, you ask how to check the fuel pump. If you are new to boating and outboard engines and take offence to what HarborRat is saying, you are not off to a very good start.

The you say, in response to Bruceb58, that you do not know how to check for spark. It may be time for you to find a manual somewhere and get familiar with the engine or you will be taking it to someone for repairs and then it will cost you money.

But it is your engine and you are free to do as you wish. Good Luck with it!

Thanks. I don't have a service manual. I'll look into buying one. Hopefully the service manual will help me find the intake, check the fuel pump, and check for spark. I guess I should have just bought one of those instead of joining the forum. My mistake.

You are asking how to do open heart surgery without even knowing what a stethoscope is. I wasn't trying to be harsh but you seem to think this grease monkey stuff so is easy a caveman can do it. I was trying to save you from breaking something and costing yourself a lot more money in the long run. I answered all your questions but since you don't know the basics I may have well written it in Swahili.

I honestly think a factory service manual will be way over your head without first knowing the basics of an engine, maybe a Chilton manual will be an easier read as they do explain the basics. Again, no offense meant.
