2006 Mercury Verado 200, possible pencil coil issue?

Hello all,

I am having an issue with my 2006 Mercury Verado 200 four stroke. It starts right up and sounds pretty good. At slow speeds, I can feel and hear a miss. The boat is a little slower getting on plane than usual. At WOT, I usually run in the mid 40’s, but now only high 30’s. From things that I have read, I think maybe pencil coil? If so, has anyone had luck checking them with an Ohm meter? Any advice on the issue?

Thanks,

Captain Wolfe

The boat actually seems to be cavatating a bit on take off. It has never done this before, same prop and everything. I did remove the prop to change lower unit oil. I have read symptoms of a prop exhaust ring, anyone have such an issue? Anyone think this could be my whole issue?

Unable to provide some good info, but if motor does have a miss the ECM will store a code. Need to scan motor for sodes

I just emailed the shop I deal with, hopefully they can get me in, check if it has thrown a code or two. I was just hoping to run across someone that has had the same exact trouble, and an easy fix!

Thanks Alldodge

Well, shop can’t get me in for another 4 weeks, so I am going to try to throw some parts at it. Lol

It's pricey but might want to invest in a scanner from Rinda. Cheapest is the Techmate Pro

Well, I kept it simple and started with the spark plugs. It was that easy. She is running great. NGK Iridium plugs, pretty expensive for a spark plug.

Similar happened to me on my 4 stroke seadoo. Startyed running rough and missing and thought it's a 4 stroke, should not need plugs. After other things that's exactly what it needed
