I have a Volvo penta 5.0 sx drive and I am having a water ingestion problem. Water is being ingested into all cylinders, both sides. Has happened twice now when I come off plane, idle and then after a minute or so it will stall and hydrolock. Have had the boat for 3 years now this has never happened. Then i pull all the plugs, blow out the water and get it running again. Can’t imagine both risers are bad? Or both manifolds, or both head gaskets? Is there an exhaust flapper somewhere? I know Volvo got rid of the flapper in the Y pipe in the 90s? This is a 2006. This problem just started happening this year. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Volvo has the external flapper on the drive.

Measure the SWL to riser dimension. Should be 14". However if your boat is waterlogged, it would sit lower and promote water entering the exhaust

What is the best method to measuring that? Where is the flapper on the drive?

measure A, subtract B. should be 14 or more. if less, find out why.

here is the flapper and exhaust exit.

I will measure this afternoon and get back to you on that. I am still not clear where the flapper is and is it replaceable? Could the flapper be my problem? Doesn’t it seem strange this problem just started?

I'm leaning towards your boat has 800-1000# of water in the foam and it's riding low

If it were your boat would you just take the gamble and buy the taller risers?
No. I would first look if your existing manifolds and risers are rusted thru (acetone test) and diagnose what is needed

See if the waterpump at the bottom of the boat has stopped working. There can be loads of water down there.
