This motor has run low hours (approx 100) it has been stored outside in humid conditions.
The motor will turn over on the starter but not fire. However as you rotate the key to switch it off and actually turn it off it fires briefly. If you then quickly turn it back on again it will run totally normally. There were no issues leading up to this problem, it just suddenly started occuring and the motor runs fine once started.

We are too nervous to take the motor to sea at the moment and the Tuna are biting! Can anyone advise?

I would venture to say that you have a partial ground fault in the kill circuit at the ignition switch.

Replace the ignition switch.

hope it helps
