I recently took my 2007 9.9 mercury 4 stroke to a repair place other than the usual local dealer I regularly go to cause the owner at the new joint seemed friendly and I like to try new places out. The work I wanted done involved having a CMC pt 35 installed on my boat, check cooling system, and since I used ethanol in my boat for some time, clean the carb. I got my boat back other day, The CMC unit installation went alright and the motor pumps water well even though I had to have a new thermostat and housing due to marsh muck blockage, shell bits, etc plus have my cooling passages blown out/cleaned through. The only pickle is that my carbs didn't seem right. I had to pump the little primer bulb on the motor housing to keep the motor running. So I took it back to the shop and the owner apologized and said Merc carbs were a booger to deal with. He called me yesterday and said everything was ok now. I got the boat back and ran it in a barrel of water to see if that was true. It started right up but the idle seems a little fast kinda like having the choke out but the choke was in and I had to pump my fuel line bulb only a couple times 4 it to get hard. Would having a fast idle cause any problems or would I have to bring the back boat to the shop again to tune things up? How many times does one give a shop a chance to fix things right? I don't want to be one of dem angry customers but my CDC adviser told me sometimes you have to be that ant in the pants to get things done. One more thing how does one protect the wiring and circuits on the CMC PT35 from corrosion? Did i make the mistake of going to a non Merc specialized repair place?
