I have a 2007 Mercury 50 on a pontoon. I keep getting the overheat alarm. I took the lower unit off and cleaned the water pump from debris and checked the termostat. I only found one thermostat on this one. Is there a poppet valve on these? I did not see one underneath like some of them have. I am getting a pee stream. I dont know what else to do. I figured I would check before I took it to a mechanic. I just didnt want it to be something simple. any help would be great.

You should still have warranty on that motor, no?

not sure if a warranty will cover overheating if it is clogged with sand or something.

Is it possible your lower unit is too high on the transom? If it happens when the boat is up and on plane you may be moving the water intake above the water line you may have cavitation in the pump. You may need to lower the motor a notch or so. If that's not the case then you should get it to the shop. If you are starting the motor before the boat is in the water then you probably fried the impeller.

is it possible for the pump to move water to the pee hole but not move enough water. the water coming from the pee hole is not rapidly coming out but it doesnt seem to be coming out real slow either. what is the normal water pressure for this engine at idle?
