Neighbor pulled his boat out and put the cover over it. Failed to pull plug. The cover blew off and filled it with water up to intake manifold. I changed his oil (oil pan full of water), pulled sparkplugs and checked for water in cylinders (none). I cleaned the whole trim unit, motor, and reservoir all dried out and working properly with new oil. The drive unit oil was low so when we added oil that warning horn quit going of. The engine cranks right up and idles fine. It just won't go above 2,000 rpm and when throttled up to go above 2000 rpm it sounds like it's not getting fire on all cylinders and runs real rough. Got a clue what to check? Is there a way to check trouble codes without a computer? where is the connector for hooking up a code reader or computer? What does it look like? I'm good on the old engines but all the new electronics is beyond my experience.

That would not really surprise me. I'd guess plenty of moisture. The reason I skipped the fuel is that the tank is sealed and there should be no way for water to enter the fuel system since it didn't get over a vent or fill cap. Since it starts right up and does okay at low rpm I wouldn't suspect the fuel filter.... probably time for a new one anyway...

If the drive was low, why not shut it down and find out why?

Rinda makes the code reader, and yes if there is codes it will read them.

My first guess is the fuel pump is not operating correctly.

How about a serial number?
Have you changed the fuel filter?

I did shut it down and found out the oil was low in the reservoir. Added oil and horn quit blowing. Serial number ow6554154. As for code reader, I've been told about hooking up a blinky blinky light to count the flashes on some motors. Not being familiar with these engines I don't even know where the data link connector is. Kinda figure there might be a chance of doing it the old way like OBD before OBDII came into being. I had an old car that I rigged up a blinky light to a couple of wires under the hood to get codes.... not sure but I think it was an old Toyota or maybe a Dodge Aries.

To many digits on your S/N I'm using 0W655415
This S/N series is either and Alpha or Bravo drive. Alpha uses cool fuel 1st edition, and Bravo's use the canister with two pumps in one box.
You have the PCM 555 engine module and the LED and jumper will not work, along with any of the OBD readers

The drive was low in lube, so it needs to be pulled, drained and changed.

You can get am EFI fuel pressure gauge set and check the fuel pressure on the rail

I happen to have a fuel pressure gauge loaned from autozone... been having LOTS of fuel issues lately on truck, van, and a pontoon with mercury 4 cycle. These boats set up for a couple of years then have problems. Our pick up AND van both FORDS had bad fuel pumps but they did pump...

The led and jumper only work on MEFI 1-4. To scan it you will need the real thing.
