2007 Volvo SX-M drive question

So I started taking on more water after the dealer replaced the external trim pump on the drive, I looked around the transom shield and found this, is there supposed to be a rubber cover that threads into this hole and seals the shift cable from water going into the opening. 2007 Volvo SX-M drive.

There is a hose on the inside of the boat that needs to be routed up above the water line.

Looks like you need a shift cable too.

Don,

Your right, the boot was on the inside and was tight, the shift cable is fine, from the bouside it looked like the boot went on the outside, so this is not the source of my small leak, thanks for the help really appreciate it.

Great, can you explain the split in the cables outer covering and how it could possibly be "Fine" ?
