Hello everyone
I just got a used 25 hp 2 stroke 2008 long shaft. Runs great, good Compression etc. this was the first time having it running, I had it on muffs. when in neutral the propeller spends both ways freely, in forward the prop clicks when I spin it forward but has compression when I spin in backward. in reverse it seems to work fine. any ideas what's going on? Sounds like a clutch clicking or something, when it's running the clicks and does not move.
Thanks!

It's an "over run" clutch that is part of the link between the drive shaft and the prop shaft in the lower unit. It allows your prop to follow the water pressure applied to it on decelerating rather than following the drive shaft when you drop in rpms. Without it, you could find your teeth in the windshield frame if the conditions and speed were right. In reverse, you don't have one because you don't go that fast and don't need it.
