My husband and I purchased a 2008 - 22 ft glass master boat last year. It is just now a year old.

This past week, we were going to take it out and found blistering all around the top of the hull. The fiberglass is blistering and it opens a bb size hole. We have 3 or 4 of them.
Called the manufacturer today for help as we have a 10 year hull warranty and they said that Bentley went under. We were out of luck!!

Now, grant you, something is not right here!

We need HELP!!!! $31,000.00 boat and no recourse?

Can anyone give us some help?
Thank you!

Go back to the dealer that you bought it from and ask them who is covering the warranty. Then ask if they cover it. and then talk to a lawyer.

Well, we called the Dealer today and he said that they went under. So, this means that Glassmaster/Bentley will not cover their warranty?
Looks like an Attorney is in order.
I am open to any suggestions at this moment. We love the water and to think that this is happening to our brand new boat. Are there any laws that protect us? The manufacturer is in South Carolina.

The manufacturer WAS in South Carolina, they no longer exist so there is no one to sue.

They may have had to set aside some money for warranties but not necessarily, you can try a lawyer but that may be money in a hole as there is noone to go after anymore, they have been under for almost a year.

I'm confused..is it a Glastron or a Bently..That non withstanding ,if in fact the company is no more, and there warranty's are not being covered by an outside company , the thing to do is get the blisters repaired and use the boat, with the amount of company bankruptcies there are hundreds of owners left holding the bag..if there is anyone to sue,it'll take years for a settlement to come thru, and the first to be payed from liquidated assets are the lawyers then the suppliers..owners are on the bottom of the food chain, but talk to a lawyer first ,there are no real lawyers here (thank god) just armchair one's. but all that aside..blisters look bad,but wont affect the performance of the boat...you payed for it..use it.

P.S.
If you were referring to Bentley..as in Bentley pontoon boat fame..the company is now ENCORE/Bentley and is still selling boats...that was the reason for my confusion...Good Luck Gator...

Blistering on top of the hull? Never seen that before. I've seen lot's at or below the waterline. Were the blisters beneath a boat cover that may have been in direct sun? The first step I would take would be to stop new ones from forming.

Most dealers use a "standard marine purchase agreemet" that the buyer agrees that all warranties are from the manufacturer and not the dealer. If this agreement was used save your money on a lawyer.

Try putting a heat light right above the blissters, some times this works

I agree with all the above. Probably out of luck. Factory provides warranty. If factory in bankruptcy, you could file a creditors claim but would be way down the chain. An attorney might help but depending on amount of damage probably throwing good money after bad. But, i'd still pressure the dealer to help you out from customer service perspective. You wrote them the 30,000. check. Worst that hAppens.... They say no. Good luck

Thank you all so much for all your replies!

I have done some research on this and found that the owner, is still listed on Glass Master LLC in the business search in South Carolina It has not closed. Just probably moved the name to Encore.

The dealer is having same issues. He has done warranty work for Glass Master and has not been paid a dime.

I probably will contact a lawyer to get some advice on this. It just makes me sick to know that you can own a business, file bankruptcy and sc**w people out of $31,000.00. There has to be some kind of recourse.

What kind of attorney should I look for?

You will probably be better off financially and emotionally by getting the three or four blisters repaired. If the hull is white you can easily do it yourself--epoxy and gelcoat, maybe just gelcoat. If you have only a few bb sized blisters it's hard to see what use a lawyer will be. If it gets really worse, then.........
