You can pull a skier with a lot less HP's but getting it back up on plane each time a skier falls will be a big waste of gas (especially when on 1 ski) . Lund's have a bottom design that needs the extra HP's for decent performance in my opinion.

I pull tubes on my 16' Mr. Pike with a 75hp motor. With a few riding, 1 tubing, we hit 35mph easily...maxed around 40mph. They have a ton of fun...until turn them across a big wake. ;)

Re: 2008 Lund 1775 Classic Sport

I just bought a new leftover 2008 Lund Classic Sport as well. It had a 60 HP 4 stroke engine on it that I had reservations about and then I saw these posts. So, I too asked the dealer to upgrade it to a 90 and I'll be picking it up in late April.
I have a question about boat covers that I was hoping someone could help me with. I was looking at the semi custom outdura covers on iboat (I've looked at covers everywhere and they seem to have the best cover at the best price) but I'm not sure what size to get. It allows you to pick a 17 foot that fits a boat up to 17' 5" or an 18 foot that will fit a boat starting at
17' 7" up to 18' something. My boat is 17' 3". The website says the covers allow for walk through windshields and bow mounted trolling motors. I called last night and one girl told me I should get the 18' if the trolling motor sticks up more than 3". I don't have the boat yet but can see from the picture that it does. Tonight another girl said the 17' would fit because they make allowance for trolling motors. I don't want it too big as it will be stored outside all summer. Any of you buy one of these and which cover did you go with? I'm driving myself crazy with this. Thanks for any suggestions.

With a semi custom cover you never know how it will fit. Buying online is hard because they may charge you a 20% restocking fee plus you are out the postage both ways unless they have free shipping. Then you have to do it all over again for the next cover. If you trailer you might need to get a fabric that is trailable too. For what you think you will save after all this you should pull the boat into a custom canvas shop and let them give you a quote.

For just yard storage I bought a cheapo Walmart boat cover. It's on the second boat already. Think it was like $45. I even use it over the $700 custom cover to keep the bird stuff off it and to protect it from cats etc.
I use it in motel lots to cover up the expensive one from getting stolen.

If you have to save money then try a brick and mortar store like Cabelas, Gander Mountain, West, Bass Pro. This way you can take a semi custom off the shelf and go out to the parking lot and try it on the boat. If you order from one of those stores online you might be able to bring it into the store to return it.

Iboats has many covers too. I think they are offering free shipping and no tax too!

Oh Ya, welcome to Iboats :D . Nice move on the bigger motor. You will never look back and it increases your resale with that 90 too.

do a few searches for old threads on covers. There have been many questions answered on the subject.

Thanks very much. I pick the boat up on the 14th and I can't wait!

Re: 2008 Lund 1775 Classic Sport

I picked the boat up yesterday and all I have to say is,

"SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!"

This boat is absolutely BEAUTIFUL although I'm sure I'm just a little bit biased.:)

My wife told me people actually stopped to look at the boat (it was in the street) when I ran an errand yesterday.
Unfortunately I won't have pictures to post until next week.

Oh yeah, the guy at the Marina told me to be VERY careful when removing the engine cover when I check the oil - it's $900+ for a replacement.
This thing (motor) is HUGE!!!

Congrats. What warranty did they give you? They will send you an opportunity to extend it (but do it only with a manufactuer's warranty, never an after market one) if it's not 5 years. I would forgo a few beers and extend it. If you think the cover is expensive wait till they hit you with your first repair bill after your warranty is up

Ask your dealer how much it is to have as an example: a blown power head replaced?

The extended warranty also is transferrable and increases the resale value.

You've done the right thing so far now just plan to go that extra step. You might have a window of 12 months to be able to extend the warranty. This way you don't have to spend more money right now.

Just my opinion.

They told me the warranty is for 5 years, but I might get in touch with Mercury just to make sure.

I have to go though all the warranty information when I have a chance - they gave me a TON of paperwork and pamphlets to go over.

Great if it's the 5 year deal. Merc offers a free 5 years extended warranty as an early promotion each spring. I didn't want to say anything because your dealer has to also participate in the program.

If you already closed the deal and tried to add it on after they might have blocked you from getting the 5 year promotion, because they have to build that extra cost to them into the total sales price.

No, the promotion was in place when I originally bought the boat with the 60HP motor on it, so I'm sure (pretty sure) the 90 should also have it.
I still can't get over the size of that motor. My fishing partner isn't going to be very happy with that thing back there!:)

I already bought a cover for it to prevent scratches from lures, etc.

You are probably OK but double check. I originally bought a 30 and it came with the 5 year. Two weeks later I swapped it for the max rated 40 and they told me the promotion was no longer available

The salesman duped me into taking a 2006 which I found out on once on the water it was defective and he said it was brand new (ya right).

I could have fought with Mercury for the 5 year warranty But the dealer only charged me $500 to move up from the 2006 30 to the 2007 40hp so a few months later I paid the extra $300 for the 5 year and said the hell with it!
