Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are considering purchasing either a new 2009 Tahoe or possibly a leftover 2008. We are stuck between the Q4 (135hp) or the Q5 (190hp). The Q4 is very attractive budget wise, but a few times per year we like to invite 4-6 friends to join us...

Currently, we have an old 1979 SportCraft that has an 80HP outboard. It is an issues when we have 4-6 friends with us, as it is difficult to get on plane...

We don't really ski or wakeboard behind the boat, we mainly just cruise around and swim/relax...

Does anyone have any issues with the Q4 with a load of 4-6 people, cooler & other stuff!

Thanks,
Denis

Are you set on Tahoe's? All makes, models, and brands are dirt cheap right now so you might be surpirsed at what "higher-end" boats are going for these days. For instance, I just bought a loaded 2008 left-over Four Winns for less than a comparable 2008 left-over Tahoe. Best of luck!

I think I am set on the Tahoe, only because I am in sales and I have a rewards card redemable at Bass Pro Shops with alot of money on it. From what i've read here, I definitely won't be using them (Bass Pro) as my primary service dealership though.
I would probably purchase the boat their and have it serviced at another dealership...

I hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck with BPS and you're right on about finding a "service" dealer after your purchase. If you have any $$$ left-over from your purchase, I could use some new fishing lures!!! HA HA :)

Hey T-2002,

I'd go with the larger power plant. With 4 to 6 people you'll need it to successfully get on plane. But, 190 still seems a little on the low side and would go a little higher like 230 hp.

Good luck in your decision.

jacknbella,
I thought you paid 29k for your 4winns. Or was it 34k?

He's talking Q5 or Q4, and those two boats aren't going to cost anywhere near that price. Q4 starts at 17k, Q5 is 20k. You're talking in the range of 50% more to get up to the price of your 4winns.

29K. I was not suggesting he buy a 22-footer like mine. I was only suggesting he look at other brands because deals are plentiful for all sizes. A comparable 2008 Four Winns H190 could possibly be in his price range. It all depends on how desperate the dealer is...

Re: 2008 or 2009 Tahoe

Thanks Guys,
Right now, my wife and I like our boat (1979 80 HP SportCraft) as it was our first boat and we've had fun on it. With that said, it is DEFINITELY time to get a new one. With both of us on, with my 65lb dog our boat goes about 30mph, which seems fast enought. We are not really that into speed...

I am leaning more towards the 190HP boat though. Is the "No Haggle" price from BP really ?NO HAGGLE"? Will they not budge at all?

Re: 2008 or 2009 Tahoe

My q6 has the 190, with 4 people, full tank, it hits about 52 mph. I've had 4 people and 1 wakeboarder, without any issue on power. Plus gas mileage is great.

Now I have friends that would be disappointed if their boat couldn't hit 65, and that's okay, just not one of my criteria for my boat.

In looking at reviews, one review showed the q5 with 190 at 4600 hit 45 mph. The rpms and the speed sound low. The review said "the final version will improve top-end speed ...". This boat, according to the review, was set up for the hole shoot.

If my q6 is going to hit 52, then I'd think the q4 or 5 would hit at least 55. Of course its all dependent on how you set it up, and how you trim it out.

To answer your first questions, they don't haggle much, but times are tough right now. It's often easier to get add-ons than to get them to lower pricing. However you're starting out much lower than a lot of comparable boats.

Re: 2008 or 2009 Tahoe

I have a 2008 Q4 135. Other than the usual problems with it that people have posted, like run on, i'm quite happy with it. I have had 5 ppl on it while tubing with no problems, I've also had 8 ppl and planed with no problems. just took a bit longer. I use it for cruising and such, and don't care about hitting 50mph + so it doesn't bother me one bit. on calm waters, I've hit 46mph with 2-3ppl and that's enough for family fun on my end......it's fantastic on gas and a good looking boat for the money.....all and all, its a good bang for ur buck.
