Looking at Buying a 2008 Regal 2200 w/ RS package whats the HP of the 5.7 L GI SX motor they are claiming 300 HP
The built sheet (window sticker) list it at 280 HP ?

Also if it is 280 HP when did Volvo go to 300 HP ? I also found an 2010 Regal 2200 listed with a Volvo 300 HP motor.

I currently have a older 19 ' bowrider with a 260 HP and looking for bigger and faster and 30-35 K for 20 HP doesn't add up

Please help me sort this out !

actually I just looked at vp.com and it says for 2008 some are 280 some 300 all depending on the exact engine. you will have to get a serial number or at least the full model to know for sure. all the new 5.7 gxi's are 300, I think they switch fully to 300hp in 2010

The boat is in perfect condition 42 hours so I would think the engine cover is original and has 5.7 GI and "300" on it but the window sticker list it as "280 HP" I need the engine serial # ? or HIN # ?

1987 OMC with about 350 hour boat sat and really was only used 1 or twice a year as a extra boat by hr last 2 owners over the last 15 years, all cyclinders are between 145 and 150 psi runs 4500 rpm WOT w/ 17 pitch SS prop 51-52 mph on GPS, also just had a water test with an 2009 Colbalt 222 w/ 350 mag mecr 300 HP and it went 49-50 on gps and again for 40 K over the value of my boat hard to justify. Going next saturday to water test the regal w/ the VP 5.7 liter and will get the serial # we do alot of weekend trips 70- 80 miles one way on the mississippi and friends have bigger boats that cruise at 45 mph and I like to go fast sometimes. Tried finding a big block for the last 6 months in a 22-23 foot boat not many around .

The engine could be either 280 or 300 hp. Just depends if it's a J or K model. Both used in 98. The J was most of 08, the K started later.

Don,

Where will the model desitation be (J or K) in the motor serial # ? where is that located on the motor ? Maybe I can save myself a 4 1/2 hour drive to go see the boat.

Found a local Regal 2200 RS with motor serial # 4012229780 and it come up as 300 HP as" 5.7Gi-300 J and if you use the same search w/o a serial number you can find both 280 HP and 300 HP "J" code motors ?? Also what is the difference in these ECU or actual mechanical differneces ? Cam Shaft ot cam timing ?

Type in 5.7Gi-300-J and tell me where it says 280HP ............. All I see is 300

The serial number tell you what that specific engine is. Not a range of engines, that specific serial number.
