Thank you in advance
I have a 2008 Tahoe Q6 4.3 with a Gas Leak I filled the tank and when i arrived at storage 4 miles away strong odor of gas. I found gas running out drain and the bilge puddled in the engine compartment all hoses and seal @ sending unit are good so have to assume it is the tank!
Anyone else have this issue and if so how do you replace the tank without Cutting the boat in half!? The only access to the tank is approx 8 inches x 30 inches, balance of 45 gallon tank is fiber glassed/molded into the boat!
From everything i can see it is on the bottom or rear of the tank and coming out under it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks again

Kind of early in the boat's life to be loosing the fuel tank. Post some pictures so we can see what you are seeing.

There is a storage locker with a floor grate up by the helm and the floor is carpeted. (right?) I would assume that the tank is in the subfloor between the rear and helm area seats. I assume that you can also see the tank from the engine compartment (?)

The carpet may have to come up and then see if there is a section of the floor that can be unfastened to fully access the tank.

Maybe reach out to Tahoe as well for some guidance.

I would start by emptying the tank (siphon or pump from gas pick-up). At that point, remove the fill hose, vent hose, and if not already done, the fuel line to the engine and plug them off with something. Then pressurize the tank (3 psi) to see if it holds pressure. That should tell you if it is the tank. If fuel can run out, then air certainly would escape when pressure testing.

If you find that it isn't the fuel tank, then start looking elsewhere such as but not limited to the fuel pump diaphragm.

Thank you for the fast replies
I will get some pictures up shortly
I did call the manufacture and they stated "we only refer to the dealer for any Issues" I asked for a diagram for tank or hull and was told that is proprietary when i called the dealers in a 100 mile radius they all said they cant do it as it formed into the body and requires cutting it out..??WOW
thanks again

i have narrowed it down to the tank but hoping someone had a similar situation that they got fixed
The Tank is Plastic if that helps
I will post some pics shortly

In that case, the only way would be to remove the deck above the tank to replace the tank. When I was gutting mine for my rebuild, even once the deck was removed, removing the tank was a challenge as it was foamed in. But I guess if you're replacing it anyway, you could cut the old one out.

In my 2006 Q7, the only way the fuel tank is coming out without a saw is by removing the engine and sliding it out. I never looked close enough to see how the tank was secured though. I've looked at several Tahoe's of different years and they have all had a solid floor.

Good morning all, I am having the same problem with my 2010 Q7i. Tank seems to be leaking from underneath. I am completely mind boggled how this can ever happen. Has anyone figured out the removal of the tank without cutting the floor out? This is a nightmare!! Please help us :(
